Wearing size 11.5 boots, he was your childhood hero, carrying you on his shoulders and pulling on your sledge with his giant arms. Today, he makes you smile with unsophisticated jokes and worries maybe a little too much for your future. You admire this man, though. And more than anything, you love him. Introduced in Catholic countries in the 5th century, the Feast of Saint Joseph is now associated with Father's Day. Developed in the USA during the 20th century under the influence of Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, who wished to pay tribute to the man who raised six children by himself, the feast day then spread all over the world. France celebrates dads on June 18th, Germany praises our sweet dads on Ascension Day (May 25th), New Zealand on the first Sunday in September. Argentina glorifies José de San Martín on June 18th and Thailand takes a break for the King's birthday on December 5th, its streets covered in gold yellow.
Invading Paris through the fast track
About 90 miles from the French capital, adrenaline junkies defy gravity. On the programme, 20 minutes of airplane ride, 13,000 feet of altitude, 50 seconds of freefall, 120 mph and 5 to 7 minutes of gentle parachuting. After a quick training on the ground, you'll board a small plane to fly over the clouds and give you just enough time to start forgetting what you're about to face. No room for acrophobia, you fall into the void at an amazing speed. As you're falling closer to the surface of the earth, your screaming will soon give in to the uncontrolled laughter of someone happy to conquer their fear and master their life. Happy Father's Day!

Canoe and canyoning on the emerald looking Verdon
“Sit beside a mountain stream / See her waters rise / Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies”, as the Beatles sung in Mother Nature's Son. Formed by the River of the same name, the Verdon Gorge stands up proudly and flows peacefully, drenched in sunlight no matter the season. What a spectacular show to behold from the scouting villages perched up high on the clear rock formations of this immense ravine. You can get lost in protected green areas and immerse your warm skin in almost cyan waters, flowing down over the Provence region. Take your father to a canoe and canyoning weekend and wake up his dormant taste for adventure, stuffed with his favourite pastries on that feast day. A getaway about 60 miles from the Nice airport.

Less than 120 miles away from Venice, peaks and plains become perfect biking range. “Breathtaking”, “sensational” or “tremendous” are some of the terms used to qualify the path you're about to follow with your sweet begetter. Are you ready to let rip at the Italian Alps uplands of craggy slopes and steep valleys? Between two mad dashes, take some time to gaze at the sun colouring the limestone landscape with pink hues.
Set point on Miami beaches

Sitting at the foot of the city's high-rises, beach volleyball fields stand alongside each other and games never end. Walk up and carry the ball to potential other players, play defence, fall on the soft sand when the other teams hit a lob next to the net. Between two bathing sessions, use up your energy in this team effort that is sure to bring you and your eternal protector together. Wake up the contestant in you: serve receive and forearm pass, bump and surprise the opponent and smash in! Easy!

Southern Corsica, alongside the porphyry cliffs
When the summertime sun starts warming up your body, sporting amateurs and enthusiasts gather along the Scandola Reserve, offering a preserved seabed. Don't bring scuba tanks, they are prohibited there. However, snorkelling in the transparent water will allow you to see the coral. If you want to extend the experiment with your father, head towards the small village of Pianotolli, in Southern Corsica, where you will discover incredible sites with the diving center. Among them, do not miss the Cathedrals: enormous granite plateaus dotted with heads, faults, canyons, and screes with a "drop” South and West. You will also like the Two Dragons, two beautiful rocky mounts facing each other where the faults hide morays and grouper fish.

Amid the Kogelberg mountains, the holes keep coming, but they're never the same: a par 3 by clear waters, followed by a par 5 under lines of pine trees going downhill... Voted “Best golf course of South Africa” by Golf Digest in 2008, Arabella will bring you and your dad together on the country's prime turf.
